The demands on enterprise cyber resilience have never been higher. Many companies are confronted with cyber threats on a daily basis in their often complex technology environments and still do not have any proven security solutions for corporate networks at hand. As a result, companies are increasingly being hacked and publicly pilloried. Hardly a day goes by without media coverage of new cybercrime incidents. For companies, this means having to deal with a large number of additional areas of damage. Private individuals are being asked by online lawyers to participate in class action lawsuits, the share prices of large security companies are plummeting by several percentage points, leading to legal action by shareholders, and employees are leaving companies due to known security breaches: The world for entrepreneurs has demonstrably changed. In this white paper, we have listed and categorized a selection of the security incidents that received media attention in the first half of 2024. We have explicitly decided not to directly name the companies affected. This is because the aim of the white paper is not to reprimand the companies affected. Rather, the white paper is intended to help companies learn from incidents and draw conclusions for their own IT security strategy.
